CFHLA Introduces Tourism's Voice: Your Political Advocate

   As instructed by the 2009 CFHLA Board approved “Business Plan,” the bi-monthly newsletter formerly known as the GA Update will be revamped into its new format as the:

Tourism’s Voice: Your Political Advocate.

Governmental Affairs Committee Luncheon Guest: Commissioner S. Scott Boyd

On Wednesday, January 14th the GA Committee Meeting hosted newly elected Orange County Commissioner, District 1, S. Scott Boyd. Commissioner Boyd expressed concern for Orange County‘s upcoming fiscal year but remarked that “with these challenges also comes opportunities.” Commissioner Boyd also expressed his full support of Commuter Rail and stated strong, positive feelings towards its completion.

 

Other topics discussed with the Commissioner included:

 

  • 3 Downtown Venues
  • Tourist Development Tax
  • Labor Union Issues

In addition to these issues, Commissioner Boyd expressed that the one item at the top of his priority list will be the youth in the community.

On January 13th, several CFHLA board members joined Senator Andy Gardiner and John Hillenmyer, President of Orlando Health, for a roundtable discussion.

  • Economic Impact of the Regional Healthcare Industry

The breakfast meeting was held at Orlando Health, with the following Board Members attending:

City of Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer to be 2008 CFHLA Employee Recognition Reception Guest

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer will be the special guest for CFHLA’s annual Employee Recognition Awards Dinner which recognizes 180 “front line” employees of CFHLA member hotels.

 

This year, the CFHLA Employee Recognition Dinner, sponsored by Bright House Networks, will be held on January 29th, 6:00pm at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress.



In 2008, Orange County Commissioner District 3, Mildred Fernandez, was the CFHLA Employee Recognition Dinner guest.

CFHLA Member John Parkinson Officially Accepted Into Leadership Institute Class

CFHLA Board Member John Parkinson of the Embassy Suites Orlando I-Drive Convention Center has been selected to attend the 2009 Central Florida Political Leadership Institute. Members are approved by the BusinessForce Executive Board.

 

The Central Florida Political Leadership Institute educates prospective political leaders through a variety of opportunities and events throughout the year.
