Blacklisted?
|
|
|
During a presentation
at the recent Orange County Tourist Development Council
Meeting, Gary
Sain, the President / CEO
of the Orlando/ Orange County Convention
and Visitors Bureau, revealed rumors that the Federal
Government has blacklisted several cities, including
Orlando, restricting
government department business meetings at these destinations.
CFHLA is working with the CVB to correct this
misconception.

Travel Promotion Act 2009
|

|
On
Monday, June 22nd the “Travel Promotion Act” (S.1023)
reached a halt in the U.S. Senate, due to
disagreements on amendments. Sponsored by Senate
Majority Leader, Sen.
Harry
Reid
(D-NV), the “Travel Promotion Act of 2009” (S.1023)
would create a public-private partnership whose sole purpose
is to promote the United
States
as an international travel destination.
This
organization would be funded by a $10 fee on foreign travelers
from countries that do not already pay for visa entry into the
United
States.
Several developed countries charge similar fees for entrance
and/or exiting. According to the U.S. Travel
Association, this program would create nearly 40,000 new
American jobs and attract 1.6 million new international
visitors annually.

Did You Know ...
|

The CFHLA - PAC monitors all
elections in Orange, Osceola and Seminole
counties.
Importantly, the CFHLA
- PAC invites qualified candidates to interview, to seek
endorsements, and to seek support (of their elections) by
CFHLA and the hospitality industry.
92% of the November
2008 CFHLA endorsed political candidates earned election
victories.
In April 2009 in
Tallahassee, your CFHLA-PAC
successfully fought proposed changes to the Tourist
Development Tax – thus preserving the integrity of the Bed
Tax.
In
April 2009, CFHLA effectively lobbied for a second seat on the
Tourist Development Council to monitor TDT use in
Orange
County.
In 2008, the CFHLA -
PAC purchased 15 electronic billboards in 3 counties to
support candidacies of PAC endorsed candidates (both in August
and November timeframe).
For 2010, the CFHLA - PAC has
estimated involvement in 39 state and local election races,
based on traditional CFHLA ‘active’ races. For each of these
races, donations may be made for each election cycle - this
includes: primary elections, general elections and run-off
elections.

the members of the Governmental Affairs Committee will
each ‘adopt’ an elected official for the purpose of
maintaining an ongoing communication/relationship to
advance the interests of our Central Florida hospitality
